Overclock your OMAP Windows Mobile Phone July 22nd, 2009

For those of you lucky enough to have a phone using the OMAP processor (T-Wing, MDA, Touch, etc..) you have the option of running a little utility which will speed up your device! Omapclock, a tool which allows you to overclock your TI Omap processor, and Power Control, a program that lets you schedule tasks work together to overclock your phone to 240mhz when the screen is bright, 180mhz when it is dim. This results in noticable performance gains but unfortunately takes away from the battery life a tad bit. If you’re daring enough to take the risk of slight instability such as phone hanging or phone freezing then follow these simple steps:

  1. Download the package here.
  2. Unzip the cab and then run it on your phone.
  3. Enjoy a performance boost!
  4. If you get adventurous, experiment to improve performance!

Keep in mind all this is at your own risk, if you go to high you could freeze your phone to the point of a required soft-reset, or you could even brick it. These instructions provide no guarantee. Have fun!

I installed this on a T-mobile Wing and it breathed new life into the phone. Mine runs at a maximum 228MHz.

NOTE of CAUTION – Be careful if you toggle the display to “DIM”

I did this by accident while exploring the app for the first time. The screen was so dim it looked blank. I soft reset the phone and it went blank again. I gave up and plugged it in to charge. Then the screen came back on and I was able to toggle back to bright LCD. Hope to save someone else a momentary panic.

I had the same problem as MelangeX3 all the “DIM” toggle does is turn off the BACKLIGHT, not the actualy display, all you have to do is shit a bright light at it, such as a bright LED or a flashlight, then you’ll be able to see well enough to turn the backlight back on XD

This overclock app really increased my HTC Touch’s speed. Very noticeable.
